Description / Expertise
Galle pitcher anthropomorphe. Made in France around 1878 by Emile Galle by Saint Clement. Signed EG with cross of Lorraine. Galle is ofcourse famous for his glasswork, but many people appreciate and collect his ceramics as well. Last may there was a huge exhibition in Vic sur Seille in France with his glass and his ceramics. Since then the ceramics are booming. Especially the art ceramics. The inspiration for this pitcher Galle took from Jacques Callot in 1622. There exists an etching by Callot with almost the same figure of a musician. It tells you the great glory of Lorrain. The coat of the man is painted with insects and flowers and birds. His cheeks are red , from the booze or the exitement. It is an object that makes you happy. Up till now only four are known to exist. All in different colours and painting. Lit page 104-105 in the book Galle, exhibition in the museum of Luxembourg in Paris, in 1985-1986.
